The Lighthouse is a prominent feature of Scarborough's seafront. Standing on Vincent's pier. the history of the building is ratgher sketchy, however there are reports of a beacon on the Roman settlement on the headland in 350.
Money was given by the crown to improve the harbour at several stages in its history but the lighthouse didn't exsist until 1806.
Much changed in its appearance from the original flat roof, increased in height by some 17 feet after the german bombardment during the first world war. Mannud until 1997 the lighthouse is now fully automatic.
